The Simcoe County Branch executive are pleased to welcome Lesley Thorn as our new Recording Secretary. A long time member of the Simcoe County Branch, Lesley has volunteered in various capacities over the years and her contribution has been appreciated. We look forward to a new chapter in Lesley’s career with us.
Social Media Coordinator
The Simcoe County Branch executive are pleased to welcome Lydia Armstrong as our new Social Media Coordinator. A recent graduate of the University of Guelph-Humber, and holding a diploma in Digital Photography from Georgian College, Lydia joins the Simcoe County Branch in a newly created role as the Branch Social Media Coordinator. In this position, Lydia will administer the Branch Facebook site, and look after both Simcoe County Branch websites, public (simcoe.ogs.on.ca) and Members Only (ogs.on.ca/simcoe/index.php).
We are also pleased to welcome Spencer Linington as our new Treasurer. Spencer was born and raised in Brantford, Ontario and served with the Canadian Armed Forces for over 32 years. His family roots in south western Ontario date back almost 200 years. Spencer is a professional genealogist, the owner of Maple Grove Genealogy. He has 15 years experience in family history research, specializing in Canadian Military ancestor research.
Louise Todd took on the role of Recording Secretary in January 2017, documenting the details of our meetings and keeping track of reports and correspondence. Other commitments have infringed on the time that she had available for the Branch and she had to take her leave in December 2018. Louise’s contribution to the Branch will be missed.
In June 2017, the Simcoe County Branch website underwent a transformation as it moved to a new hosting server. At that time, our Webmasters Laurie and John Wright stepped away from the position that they had held for many years. We wish to thank them both for their many contributions to the Branch and it’s website. Their expertise was very much appreciated. John will remain on the Simcoe County Branch Executive in his role as Cemetery Chair.
In 2016 two long time members of our Executive announced they would be resigning due to family commitments.
Marilyn Storey served as Treasurer for over a decade. Her knowledge of accounting practices, eye for detail, tenacity in pursuing tax refunds and recommendations on where to save a penny kept the Simcoe County Branch in the black throughout that period.
Karen deVries became Recording Secretary for the Branch in January, 2005. Somehow, she and her tape recorder managed to make sense of all the discussions, comments, recommendations, motions, seconds and votes that took place at the meetings each month.
We extend a sincere thank you to our past Branch Executive members for jobs well done and look forward to seeing them at our general meetings in the future.
