Online Settlers Database

One of the major accomplishments of the Simcoe County Branch is the Settlers Database (originally called the Settlers Surname Index Project). This is an ongoing project by many volunteers that has provided an online searchable database containing information about settlers and early residents of Simcoe County as recorded in a number of sources. The project initially began as a database to track the Settlers Forms. It was subsequently updated to include information from other sources as listed below. The Settlers Database now contains over 265,000 entries.
Information from the following sources is included in the database:
  • Settlers Forms Volumes 1 to 27
  • Pedigree Charts Volumes 1 to 4
  • Family Group Sheets Volumes 1 to 3
  • Wesleyan Methodist Baptismal Register Index for Simcoe County (1825-1910)
  • Probate and Surrogate Court Records for Simcoe County (1828-1929)
  • Index to 1861 Census for Simcoe County
  • Index to 1891 Census for Simcoe County
  • Records for about 70 of the 245 cemeteries located in Simcoe County
  • A few burial registers, including the St Andrews & St James pre 1901 Burial Register (Orillia)

Further details of the sources included in this database (i.e. names of cemeteries included) can be found in the Settlers Database Project web page.
