The Simcoe County Branch have provided some basic research guides to help with some of your simpler How To types of questions for those who need help conducting their own genealogical research.


Queries
The Simcoe County Branch, OGS publishes queries in their newsletter, the Simcoe County Ancestor News (SCAN) with the hope of linking genealogists and family historians researching like families. Past queries can be found on the Queries page. Submissions should be directed to the Newsletter Editor and details of how can be found on the How to Submit a Query page.


Settlers Database – Obtaining Information
After you have searched the Settlers Database, you may find someone has already submitted information about your Simcoe County ancestor or their family through Simcoe County Settler Sheets project. You can request copies of this information by sending an email with the following information obtained from the Settlers Database to the Branch Publications Coordinator

  • Surname
  • Given Name
  • Source (Book Set)
  • Page Number (Set)

Other Researchers for Hire
If you feel that you need to hire a professional researcher, the Ontario Chapter of the Association for Professional Genealogists maintains a list of its members who will research for a fee. As well, the Archives of Ontario have a list of genealogical researchers on its website.
