Simcoe County Branch Workshop

This year, the Simcoe County Branch is pleased to present a series of free in person only genealogy workshops. These sessions are sure to have something for every genealogist, no matter what level. They will be held at the Barrie and District Realtors Association Facility, 676 Veterans Drive, Barrie, Ontario. Register by email for one or all, but please let us know what session or sessions you are signing up for.   • Introduction to Genealogy – Thursday, April 9, 2026 from 1 to 4 pm
    This workshop is geared for the beginner, those new to genealogy. It touches on genealogy basics: getting started, genealogical standards, getting organized, and basic sources of information you will need to start your family history project with a focus in Ontario.
  • Intermediate Genealogy – Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 1 to 4 pm
    This workshop is geared for those who have started their family history project, but need help moving their research forward. Topics covered will include: Planning your research goals, using the Family Search catalogue and Onland.ca to navigate some lesser understood sources for research in Ontario.
  • Advanced Genealogy – Thursday, May 7, 2026 from 1 to 4 pm
    This workshop is geared to a more advanced level, but can benefit anyone. Topics covered will include: breaking down brick walls, DNA, and putting it all together, documenting your findings.

Stay tuned for details of our fall lineup of free workshops that will focus on using land records for genealogy. These sessions will also be held in person only at the Barrie and District Realtors Association Facility, 676 Veterans Drive, Barrie, Ontario. Registration for the fall sessions will open the beginning of June.
