Microfilm

This is an ongoing project to make Vital Records for Simcoe County locally accessible to genealogists and family researchers without having to drive the distance to Toronto, or wait for Interlibray Loan requests.

The microfilms, which are relatively expensive, are purchased from the Archives of Ontario. The Branch adds a few reels at a time to its collection, as funds permit. Over time, we have acquired a considerable number of films. These are housed in the Barrie Public Library, in the microfilm cabinet just outside the Robert Peacock Room in the general vicinity where the Simcoe County Branch Library Collection is kept.

For a list of the birth, marriage and death indexes and registrations that are available in the library collection, see the Library Collection – Vital Statistics page.

We are most grateful to all the members and friends who have contributed funds to Simcoe County Branch for the purchase of microfilms, and to the Branch executive who work constantly to raise funds in support of the project.

If you would like to contribute to this project, please contact the Library Co-ordinator.
